When we watched Stranger Things on Netflix, we couldn’t help, but love the nerdy, but very loyal, Barb. She did nothing wrong and yet died at the hands of the Demogorgon and everyone was a little outraged. At last the audience was, the characters seemed rather ambivalent about it.
Barb Holland wasn’t sexy or charismatic. She was a friend of Nancy Wheeler and even though she wanted nothing to do with it, she went to the party and ended up stuck in another dimension. We never really saw her die and everyone hoped beyond hope that somehow she survived.
It was such a heartbreaking moment when we saw her dead body, and we wanted justice for barb. The poor girl was basically forgotten while the entire town searched for Will Byers. Even Nancy seemed forget about her once she got involved with Will’s brother.
The good news is the second season will give us all closure for Barb. Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently told IGN that Barb may be gone, but her story isn’t over.
“Barb will not be forgotten,” Matt Duffer told IGN. “We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it.
“It’s not like her parents are like, ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’ Season 1 actually takes place over the course of six or seven days — it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”
Barb wasn’t the only person the duo dished on. Matthew Modine’s Dr. Brenner seemingly died at the hands of the creature, but you can’t keep a bad doctor down.
“I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner…as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me — when the monster jumps on him and we cut away,” Duffer said. “He would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there’s a possibility of seeing him again.”
Rest in peace Barb, you were a good friend right up to the alien creature erupting through your mouth end.
