When we last saw Preacher, the small Texas town that had been the backdrop all season was blown up and the Saint of Killers was released into the world. Jesse and the gang decide to travel and find God, ending the first season and causing fans to anxiously await the second.
Our time of waiting is over on Sunday with the premier on AMC and a second episode coming the following Monday. Like many, I was skeptical of Preacher because I was a huge fan of the Garth Ennis comics and didn’t think there was any way they’d be able to remake it on television, let as well on AMC. While they’ve had no problem with gross zombies and other issues, they’d never touched on something like Preacher.
By the time the 10th episode rolled around, I was hooked. I loved how the explored Tulip’s and Jesse’s relationship. The over the top garishness of Cassidy and everyone in that strange little town. While they have taken some liberties with the storyline, as is expected with any adaptation, they main points are there and the characterization of each person is spot on. I can’t imagine anyone except Dominic Cooper as Jesse and Ruth Negga as Tulip.
While there has been little information about what is happening in season 2, we can guess by the comics that Jesse goes on a road trip to find God and learns more about his powers and the various forces at work seeking to destroy him. We also get a more in-depth look at The Saint of Killers, who is one of the best characters in the comic and someone I hoped would get more screen time in the first season.
Anyone who may have forgotten about his character can get a glimpse of what mad a mild-mannered family man become the heartless killer we all know and love via this special video created by AMC.
